Junior High Courses

Seventh & Eighth Grade

Full-time students must take these classes as a cluster:

  • Bible 101/102
  • Literature/Composition
  • American History/Old World History

Additional Classes:

  • 7th Grade Math, Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1
  • General Science (7th grade) or Earth Science (8th grade)

Bible Courses

Bible 101/102 - Instructor:  Rev. Michael Williams
Overview: Students will study the beginnings of Christianity in a walk through the synoptic gospels.  Students will be introduced to the ancient creeds of the church, the long version of the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer.

 

Literature/Composition Courses

American Literature/Composition -Instructors: Sandra McNamara & Mark Lecklider
OverviewThe Literature component is selected from novels whose American historical backgrounds are set in the period of history being studied.  Writing will concentrate on mechanical skills related to developing good paragraph structure, while also focusing on grammar and usage.

Old World Literature/Composition   Instructor: Mark Lecklider & Pam Laughlin
Overview:  English courses will concentrate on writing skills and classic literature.  The Wordsmith series allows the student to focus on both creative writing and mechanical skills with an emphasis on creative sentence structure.  Grammar and usage is the second component of the writing program.


History Courses

American History   Instructor:  Michelle Caldwell    

Overview:  This is a chronological survey of American History focusing on America’s Christian heritage. It will serve as the foundation for the high school American History course as they focus on important ideas, events, and people in American History.

Old World History   Instructor: Lisa Burke
Overview: World history starts at the beginning. The text starts with the most ancient civilizations traveling down through history with the Greeks and Romans, the Middle Ages, and the European Age of Exploration.

 

Math Courses

7th Grade Math   Instructor:  Brenda Lecklider 

Overview:  This course covers number sense, decimal operations, data and statistics, fraction operations, integers, equations, inequalities, functions, ratios and proportions, percents, geometric figures, measurement, area, surface area and volume, probability.

Algebra 1 Instructor: Brenda Lecklider
Overview: This course covers beginning algebra functions:  solving linear equations, writing linear equations, graphing linear equations, exponents, polynomials and factoring, radicals and connections to geometry.

 

Science Courses

Matter and Motion    Instructor: Mark Lecklider 
Overview: This course gives students the foundation that God created the universe.  Students will learn the basic principles of matter and motion that will lay the foundation for high school physics.

Earth Science    Instructor: Patty Stipich 
Overview: Examines God's handiwork, including the sun, moon, stars, planets, asteroids, comets, and meteors.  Students will see the perfection of God's design in a study of the earth, including the atmosphere, the lithosphere, and the hydrosphere.

Electives

Spanish   Instructor:  Andy Figueroa 

Overview:  Students will begin to learn vocabulary, sentence structure, syntax, translational, and conversational skills.  This course focuses on exposing the student to the Spanish language and culture.

Computer Applications     Instructor:  Andy Figueroa  

Overview:  Students will learn to use Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.

Beginning Strings/Orchestra   Instructor: Lindsay Burke

Overview: Students with little to no experience will learn to play an instrument in a band setting, with the goal of performing in public.

Advanced Strings/Orchestra    Instructor: Lindsay Burke
Overview: Students who have successfully demonstrated to the instructor competent skill will be given the opportunity to improve their skills with an advanced group of students.

 

Morning Assembly at 7:45 a.m. is required
for all students taking 3 or more core courses.
