Theatre Arts

At the junior high level, theatre is incorporated into the literature curriculum. In American literature (usually taken in seventh grade), students will discuss parody as they rehearse and then perform a farcical version of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer for their quarter project. In world literature (usually taken in eight grade), students study and perform Sophocles’ Greek tragedy Antigone and Edmond Rostand’s 1897 dark comedy Cyrano de Bergerac.

Straftford Festival

Each fall, our junior high and high school students have the opportunity to travel to the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada. There, they experience world-renowned theatrical performances on multiple Stratford stages and participate in immersive workshops led by professional actors and actresses. Between performances, students deepen their appreciation for the dramatic arts, gaining firsthand insight into the craft, discipline, and storytelling that bring great works to life.
